I left college halfway through my senior year — a full-ride mechanical engineering scholarship at Wright State University — to join the Army. I spent nearly a decade in Special Operations with 3rd Ranger Battalion, then went to flight school and flew CH-47 Chinooks until I retired, earning a B.S. in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University along the way.

The flying didn’t stop at retirement. A military flight school pedigree, a Special Operations background, and an active clearance took me to flying for an intelligence agency. From there I moved to helicopter air ambulance in the EC-145, EC-145e, and EC-135, private jets in the Cirrus Vision Jet, DoD mission support in the Bell 212, and corporate/VIP and utility work in the H145.

The software side started in junior high and never stopped: two and a half decades of self-taught programming across multiple languages. While flying air ambulance I formalized the security side with Security+, CEH, and Splunk Core User certifications, then founded my company for contract aviation, military advising, and software. Rather than take on investors or debt to get AeroPoint off the ground, I kept flying air ambulance while I built it — it’s now profitable and in use by major utility flight departments. The latest product is UPLINK, an ambient flashcard app for iPhone and iPad.

Today I split my time between the cockpit and the keyboard:

• Services as a contract pilot for fixed wing, rotary wing, and sUAS.
• Design and build production software — AeroPoint and UPLINK.
• Install/setup/manage networks for your small/medium business or home.
• Help you design and host your own website and services.
• Provide mentoring and advising for military staff exercises.
